Seven charts that explain the plastic pollution problem

8 Billion tonnes of plastics have been made by us and 6.3 billion tonnes is in landfill. We are now quite good at recycling so we should be able to do better than the 7% turned back to drink bottles. The numbers are snapshots of the magnitude of the problem that we face with the durability of modern plastics. We all need to re-think the dig-use-discard mentality that has shaped our developed society. It needs to be the responsibility of every designer and brand owner to make and take plastics back. What should consumers do?
